If the modern city of Kuala Lumpur fails to impress with its modern architectural marvels, take a journey out to Putrajaya—known also as ‘Garden City’ or ‘Intelligent City’—and the Agricultural Heritage Park that is sure to impress. A 50-minute drive outside of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya is known as Malaysia’s current federal administrative centre. Here, you will notice that most of the buildings are built in the style of modern Arabic architecture; gorgeous facades embellished with Arabic calligraphy and carvings.
The first destination of the tour will be the Agricultural Heritage Park; an ideal place for visitors to see and learn about an assortment of herbs, spices, numerous commercial crops, tropical fruit trees, palm oil and rubber—commodities that keep Malaysia afloat. Check out the large variety of fruit trees, including the mango tree, jackfruit, durian and more. There is also a museum that showcases the agricultural history of Malaysia if you are looking to learn a little more about it.
Once you have had enough of tropical fruits, the next destination will be the Putrajaya Government Centre. There are numerous government complexes as far as the eye can see; uniquely shaped, towering buildings designed with Mughal architecture—bulbous domes, beautiful arches and slender minarets. Facing Putrajaya Lake is the Putra Mosque, famous for its colour and exquisite dome, this magnificent building can accommodate an astounding 10,000 worshippers within its gargantuan hall. It is a harmonious blend of Middle Eastern and traditional Malay architecture that only serves to make it more impressive.
Along the boulevard, the Putra Perdana—Malaysia’s Prime Minister’s office—is a sight that is hard to miss. This eye-catching structure is built on a hill and it combines both European and Islamic influences. If you are looking to take photographs, the Millennium Monument and Putrajaya Landmark Plaza are both ideal attractions for you to snap away. Other interesting attractions include the three-deck Putra Bridge as well as the Seri Wawasan Bridge that turns into an artistic masterpiece when illuminated come nightfall.
